From Vype Magazine:
Devonte Rich hoped to earn a spot in North Little Rock’s talented receiving corps last fall. By the end of the season, the Little Rock Hall transfer was one of the Charging Wildcats’ biggest playmakers.

“I really didn’t know what to expect,” the senior said. “I just hoped to get the ball thrown my way.”

Rich (5-10, 195) racked up close to 1,000 total yards and 17 touchdowns, earning all-conference honors.

“I still have to keep showing what I can do and prove myself since I just transferred last year,” Rich said. “I think I’m one of the most dependable players on the team, and I think that’s going to get me more touches this year”.

North Little Rock’s newest playmaker ranks No. 15 in the Fox 16/VYPE Top 16 Football Players in Central Arkansas countdown.

Rich impressed NLR coach Brad Bolding, and now the coach counts on Rich to bolster a receiving corps, which features five seniors.

“Our team has great senior leadership,” said Rich, the son of NLR assistant principal Larry Rich. “All I can do is whatever the coach asks me to do. I’m going to do my best each and every game and give 100 percent.”

The dynamic Rich followed a solid fall with a strong offseaosn at camps. In the spring, Rich showcased his skills at the Nike Training Camp in Dallas. He recorded a 4.42 40-yard dash clocking and a 38-inch vertical jump. Tom Shaw, who served as a speed coach at Florida State and strength and conditioning coach for the New England Patriots, worked the camp. Shaw, who runs the Tom Shaw Performance Enhancement in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. told Rich “I was better than any receiver they had at Florida State.”

Rich, who holds an offer from Ouachita Baptist, hopes a Division I offer comes soon. He’s received interest from Florida State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Central Arkansas. Rich earned a spot on the VYPE Super Squad and ranks as VYPE’s No. 54 in-state recruit in the Class of 2010.

What Rich really wants is to help the Wildcats deep into the playoffs. NLR lost 37-21 at Springdale Har-Ber last fall.“Last year we had good team leadership, but when we got to the playoffs we unfolded and didn’t play as a team. This year we have good team chemistry. We should do a lot better.”
