Every time the doors open at free health clinics there is no shortage of clients. It's estimated 500,000 Arkansans don't have insurance and can't afford care. Local volunteers and people from the
National Association of Free Clinics will turn the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock into one big doctor's office on Saturday, November 21 from noon until 7pm. People can get medical care free of charge.
"Everyone that comes in will get a full physical. That's the first thing that will happen," says Nicole Lamoureux with the National Association of Free Clinics. "Then we have a strep test, cholesterol test, diabetes test, rapid HIV, and pregnancy tests.
We don't have any vaccinations at this time."
The mass clinic is one day but healthcare isn't, they'll connect people with places like Harmony Health Clinic for follow up care. The hope is people will continue to seek medical care on a regular basis so they can live healthy lives.
No one will be turned away but they do encourage you to make an appointment by calling 877-236-7617 in order to ensure service.
